History

Wat Pho Chai is on Pho Chai Road. Formerly called Wat Phi Phew because the site was used for cremations, it was renamed in the Rattanakosin period and later elevated to a royal monastery. It houses Luang Pho Phra Sai, a beautiful Mara-Vijaya Buddha image cast in golden-finished metal and revered as a spiritual emblem of Nong Khai.
