Wat Mahathat Worawihan

History
Also known locally as Wat Na Phra That or Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, this old temple stands on Khao Ngu Road in Na Mueang Subdistrict, within Ratchaburi Municipality. It is believed to have been built during the Dvaravati period, around the 15th–16th Buddhist centuries, around the time the old city of Ratchaburi was founded. A Khmer-style prang was later built over it around the 18th Buddhist century to make the site a city centre in keeping with Khmer cosmological beliefs. That structure apparently collapsed, and a new prang was built in the early Ayutthaya period, around the 20th–21st Buddhist centuries, forming the architectural layers seen today.
