Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

History
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, also commonly known as Khlong Ton Khem Floating Market, is a well-known attraction in Ratchaburi, about 80 kilometres from Bangkok. Around B.E. 2409 (1866), King Rama IV ordered the excavation of the more than 32-kilometre Damnoen Saduak Canal. It connected the Mae Klong River at Bang Nok Khwaek with the Tha Chin River at Bang Yang Watergate. A network of smaller canals made travel by water easier for residents of Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram and Samut Sakhon.
