Three ways the speaker looks at products
In the video, the speaker uses a pencil as a metaphor: one group invents something new, another improves what already exists, and a third aims to produce at scale and low cost. He connects this idea to how Thai businesses might differentiate themselves despite having a smaller market.
This is the speaker’s perspective, not evidence that people in any country share one trait or that every business should use the same strategy. For a real business, consider three questions: What customer problem remains poorly solved? How could an existing product become more convenient or better in quality? Can production costs fall without reducing customer value?
Turn the metaphor into an experiment
Choose one hypothesis and test it with real customers. For example, trial a new product with a small group and measure repeat purchases and unit costs before scaling. Thinking differently is more than doing something unusual: the idea needs to solve a customer problem and show that it works.
