Wat Si Sawai

History
Wat Si Sawai is set among scenic surroundings southwest of Wat Mahathat. Three prangs are enclosed by a laterite wall. Inside, the laterite viharn on the west side is separate from the main prang, which was built in the Lop Buri or Hindu style; the other structures beside the prangs are Buddhist viharns. The Crown Prince of that period, who later became King Rama VI, found a trace of the Hindu sculpture Sayomphu, described as the greatest Hindu god at the sanctuary. In his view, the ruin had once been a Hindu shrine and was later converted into a Buddhist monastery.
