Wat Phra Thong

History
The temple is on Thepkasattri Road in Thep Krasattri Subdistrict. It is home to Phra Phut, a beautiful, gleaming gold Buddha image that emerges halfway from the ground and is deeply revered by local Buddhists. The Wat Phra Thong Museum also collects objects used by Phuket residents in earlier times, including jang chui, durable rainwear for working in tin mines, and “tin tuk” shoes worn by women of Chinese descent whose feet were bound to keep them small, in keeping with social values of that era.
