Wat Pa Sak

History
Wat Pa Sak is in Wiang Subdistrict and is an important ancient site in Chiang Saen. It is considered to have some of the finest stucco work from the early Lanna period. The Mueang Ngoen Yang Chiang Saen chronicle records that the temple was built during the time of Phaya Saen Phu, described in the source as the third ruler of Chiang Mai in the Mangrai dynasty, to enshrine the right ankle-bone relic, or Goppaka Dhatu. He ordered 300 teak trees to be planted throughout the temple grounds, which became the origin of the temple’s name.
