Wat Mangkon Buppharam

History
Wat Mangkon Buppharam is an important temple of the Chinese school of Mahayana Buddhism in Chanthaburi. It is in Phlio Subdistrict, Laem Sing District, and is noted for ornate Chinese architecture that blends Thai and Chinese art. Built in B.E. 2520, it serves as a spiritual center for Thai people of Chinese descent in eastern Thailand. It is a branch temple of Wat Mangkon Kamalawat (Wat Leng Noei Yi) in Bangkok. According to belief, that temple represents the “dragon’s head,” while Wat Mangkon Buppharam represents the “dragon’s tail,” a symbol of good fortune. The temple houses Buddhist images and Chinese deities in a quiet, shaded setting suited to worship, making offerings and cultural visits.
