History

Wat Bang Mafo is an old temple from the late Ayutthaya period. Its ordination hall has doors and windows decorated with guardian figures, and its inner walls depict Jataka stories. The viharn has old-style murals of the Buddha’s life. The principal Buddha image is in the Subduing Mara posture and is unusual for being shown with a ceremonial fan. The viharn also houses a beautifully made Buddha footprint.
