The sanctuary spans Sangkhlaburi District in Kanchanaburi and Umphang District in Tak. Its terrain is mountainous, with Khao Yai as the highest peak near the centre. The area is a source of several streams and contains grassland, mixed deciduous forest, dry dipterocarp forest and evergreen forest, supporting many kinds of wildlife.
