History

Ko Yao District is in the southernmost part of Ao Phang Nga National Park. It was established in 1988, after 85 years as a branch district. The district comprises Ko Yao Yai and Ko Yao Noi and is jointly administered by Ko Yao Yai Municipality, Phru Nai Municipality on Ko Yao Yai, Ko Yao Municipality and the Ko Yao Noi Subdistrict Administrative Office. It covers 141.6975 square kilometres (87,482.72 rai).
