Bang Niew Shrine

History
Bang Niew Shrine, also known as Tao Bu Keng Shrine and Thep Rasi Foundation, dates to B.E. 2447 (1904). Local names include Tao Bo Keng and Chai Tue. A Chinese opera troupe called Kang Chai Hi reportedly came from China to perform at Mao Kao Alley, now Soi Rommani. The performers brought Phra Tien Hu Yuan Shuai (Lao Ye) to a shrine there to make merit. Regular vegetarian observance began and attracted many local participants.
