MT5 Buy Limit and Sell Limit Orders: Settings and Risks

💡 Key takeaways

A practical MT5 checklist for pending-order prices, volume, stop-loss and take-profit settings, expiration, execution mode, and order status.

The linked video illustrates a Buy Limit at 3,610 using 3,620 as an example price, and shows a Sell Limit screen with Stop Loss (SL) and Take Profit (TP) fields. These figures are examples from the demonstration, not current prices or trading signals.

How Limit pending orders work

In MT5, a pending order waits for a price condition. A Buy Limit is generally placed below the current market price to seek a purchase at a lower level; a Sell Limit is generally placed above it to seek a sale at a higher level. When the condition is reached, the order is handled according to the execution mode and broker’s terms. The trigger price is not necessarily the final execution price.

Before you submit an order

MetaTrader’s Android guide shows pending-order fields for price, SL/TP, fill policy, and expiration, and describes order states. Execution modes for a particular instrument are determined by the broker, so accounts may not process orders identically.

What the example does—and does not—show

An SL or TP is a level or instruction associated with an order or position; it does not make an outcome certain. Execution conditions and the asset type affect how an order reaches the market. Read your broker’s documentation and practise with a demo account before using real money. This page does not recommend a price to buy or sell.
